Update: November 27 - Hurricane Eta/Iota Fundraising Gains Momentum across Canada

Close to $8,500.00 has already been raised as Rotary Clubs and individuals pledge to support the Disaster Aid Canada Relief Project for Honduras and Guatemala. At the regular Club meeting of November 26, the Rotary Club of Ladysmith on Vancouver Island committed $2,500.00.

In Newfoundland a Fundraiser organized by Honduran born Ingred Sierra-Quilty has already raised thousands. Ingrid knows first hand the challenges the people in Honduras face. Now compounded by the hurricanes and tropical storms that have flooded some areas 4 times in the past 2 months and the impact of Covid-19, her people are dealing with the loss of homes, food shortages and infections caused by the polluted waters. Once again the people who have the least are the ones most affected, with no jobs, income support or insurance. Click on "Read More" for the rest of the story

Hurricane Eta/Iota Fundraising Gains Momentum across Canada - Continued

The funds raised will be used in two ways. Providing direct and immediate aid to the areas worst hit and longer term aid through the shipment of containers of medical, educational and other needed materials.

Disaster Aid Canada is collaborating with Rotary Clubs in Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula in Honduras and Vista Hermosa in Guatemala to ensure the money and aid materials go towards the people and communities most in need.

At this point Rotary Districts 7080 in Ontario and 5020 in BC and Northwest USA are involved in the project. We are in communication with District 4250 in Central America. The Rotary World Help organization is prepared to load and ship containers as soon we have a list of the needed materials for Rotarians on the ground in the affected areas.

Disaster Aid Canada is a Project of the Rotary Club of Ladysmith, a member of Disaster Aid International, a registered Canadian Charity and provides Tax Receipts for Donations. Disaster Aid International is a Collaborating organization of Rotary International and is managed and governed by Rotarians.

The Executive Director of Disaster Aid Canada is challenging other Rotary Clubs to pledge $1,000 or more, either through the direct appeal set up on “Canada Helps” https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/54353 or by cheque to:

Update November 17, 2020 - This is getting worse and worse. The impact of Hurricane Iota following on the heels of Eta will be monumental. We are presently working with Rotary Clubs in Honduras and Guatemala to get relief materials to them for distribution. We have tents, water filters, blankets and tarps and more ready to go. We will be shipping as soon as we have clearance and transportation lined up. Donations have been coming in and we are so grateful. Thank to all of the people in Newfoundland who have already donated so much! Thank you Ingrid SQ!!

Original post - Hurricane Eta has left devastated towns and flooded streets in Central America. Villages have been destroyed, many people have died, people are homeless and food is scarce, all while struggling with the pandemic.  Disaster Aid Canada is in communication with Disaster Aid International and local Rotary Clubs to get help to Honduras and Guatemala.
